Richard Massie, 1942-2020

Richard Lamar Massie

Richard’s career included several key directorships and a consulting partnership. After serving as planning director for Midwest City, Oklahoma, for four years, he returned home to Little Rock to join a consulting firm offering planning services to public and private clients within Arkansas. Richard served on the Little Rock Planning Commission for ten years and was its chair for two years. He was also on the Little Rock Wastewater Commission. In 1990, Richard returned to public service as planning director for the Arkansas city of West Memphis. Shortly after he returned to Oklahoma as planning director for Norman, where he served for 16 years before retiring to Canton, Georgia in 2007 to be nearer to his family.

Richard was a charter member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). He earned a bachelor of political science from the University of Arkansas Little Rock (1966) and master of regional and city planning from The University of Oklahoma (1968).
