Otis Hood, 1942-2018

Otis Wendell Hood, Junior (4/7/1942 - 7/13/2018), died after an illness in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born in Little Rock and attended Little Rock Central High until closed in 1957, then transferred to McCallie Preparatory, Chattanooga, TN, and attended Vanderbilt University. He joined the Marine Corps, trained at Paris Island, SC, and served in Viet Nam and SE Asia.

Otis was the son of Otis Wendell Hood, Senior, 1891-1946, and Opal Beatrice Hood Townsend, 1910-1998. Internment: Pinecrest Cemetery, Highway 5, between Hot Springs and Little Rock, next to his father and mother.

Otis excelled in customer relations including starting Culligan Water Purification offices in Salt Lake City, Denver, and Kansas City. He also worked for Continental Airlines in Denver and Houston.

Otis loved sports, including golf and tennis. During the past 20 years, he coached high school age tennis teams to victories in their leagues - four champion girls' teams and one boys' team. His card stated "Otis Hood Personalized Tennis." He gave lessons whether his students could pay or not. Otis was in a League of His Own.

His sister Jo Ann Hood Bergman (born 1939) died in Nyack, NY in 2016. He is survived by his son David Michael Hood of Charleston, SC, and his sister Bobbie Sue Hood, San Francisco, CA. His family thanks Pastor John McCallum his minister, and Otis' longtime friend, Lisa Nemzo with whom he traveled in California and Australia.
